Classroom guidance is an important part of the School Counseling program at Richfield Springs. The research based, Second Step Program is implemented into each classroom on a weekly basis. Students in grades K-6 have the opportunity to learn new skills and further develop their social/emotional awareness. During this time, students learn how to understand and regulate their feelings, practice self-control techniques, recognize other people's feelings, be able to make responsible decisions, and develop skills for problem solving. The lessons are complied of easy activities, engaging songs, games, and videos. The students really enjoy having the social interaction and learning experience. These structured lessons help promote school-wide success.
In addition, our district collaborates with several community agencies to provide our students with prevention services. These would include life skills training, bullying, heathy relationships/friendships, personal body safety, and substance abuse.
