NYSSMA Soloists

Congratulations to our NYSSMA Vocal Soloists on earning High Honors at the NYSSMA Solo Festival this weekend!

RSCS Vocal musicians travelled to Johnson City HS on Saturday, April 12th to perform their NYSSMA Solos for a NYS Rating.  All 18 RSCS Vocal Soloists earned one of the top two NYSSMA rankings in New York State on their Solo and Sight Reading Evaluation.

10 Vocal Soloists earned an "Excellent" NYSSMA Rating on their performance, and will receive a Blue Ribbon NYSSMA Medal.

*These students earned an Excellent on their Level I-IV Solos

Vocal Soloists earned an "Outstanding" NYSSMA Rating on their performance, and will receive a Red, White, and Blue NYSSMA Medal.

*Outstanding is the highest honor given by NYS for a Level I-IV Solo.

1 Vocal Soloist earned a "Gold" NYSSMA Rating on their performance, and will receive a Gold NYSSMA Medal.

*Gold is the highest honor given by NYS for a Level V-VI Solo.

These students have been attending weekly after school Vocal NYSSMA lessons with Ms. Smith and Mr. Gloo since January.  In order to earn a NYS Rating from NYSSMA, students work with their teacher to choose an approved NYSSMA Solo that fits them best, and then work consistently to improve all aspects of their performance skills to create a quality performance. This also includes learning how to sing a solo with an accompanist.  Students also spend many hours practicing their Sight Reading Skills for the Sight Reading portion of the evaluation.

Please share your Congratulations with our 2025 NYSSMA Vocal Soloists.
